Location: Round Table Pizza, 2065 Occidental Road, Santa Rosa Time & Date: Tuesday, August 3, 2021 @ 7:30 PM (Social hour and free beer for members at 6:30) Directions: From Highway 101 at Santa Rosa go west on Highway 12 to Stony Point Road Exit. Go straight from the middle lane at the light onto Occidental Road. The Round Table Pizza is on the right just down the road. COVID 19 NOTICE: GIVEN THE RISE OF LOCAL COVID 19 CASES, EVEN AMONG VACCINATED PEOPLE, AND BECAUSE WE ARE INSIDE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO EACHOTHER, WE RESPECTFULLY REQUEST THAT ALL ATTENDEES BE FULLY VACCINATED. This June, given all the negative news, Steve Curtis decided upon an unlikely climbing destination. A trip to Brazil. The advantages of going during this time were extremely low prices and a complete lack of foreign tourism in Rio de Janeiro. The disadvantage was a few cancelled flights. Steve had to spend a few more days in a South American version of paradise. Flavio Daflon, owner of Companhia Da Escalar, published a great book “50 vias classicas no Brazil”. Most of Steve’s trip was climbing 12 of these routes.

Rock Ice & Mountain Club Re-boot Social Gathering

Location: Round Table Pizza, 2065 Occidental Road, Santa Rosa Time & Date: Tuesday, July 6, 2021 @ 7:30 PM (Social hour and free beer for members at 6:30) Directions: From Highway 101 at Santa Rosa go west on Highway 12 to Stony Point Road Exit. Go straight from the middle lane at the light onto Occidental Road. The Round Table Pizza is on the right just down the road. We are really excited to re-boot the Rock Ice & Mountain Club after almost a year and a half of not being able to do monthly meetings or events. As we ease back into our monthly general meetings and start planning for future climbing and camping trips and Adopt-A-Crag events, we thought the best way to start off with a general meeting would be to just have a casual and relaxed social gathering. We will provide free drinks and may comp a pizza or two to show our appreciation to, not only our members, but our local climbing and outdoor adventure community. This will be a way to re-connect with friends, hang out and enjoy each other’s company. We will have a bunch of Mountain Hardware/Columbia Friends and Family passes to … READ MORE

The Rock Ice & Mountain Club Is Out Of Hibernation

HEY HEY ROCK, ICE AND MOUNTAIN CLIMBERS!!! Like a marmot coming out of a long winter of hibernation, we are re-emerging after almost a year and a half. As Covid-19 restrictions ease, we feel the time is right to re-rack and launch into the next pitch. Yes, our website was down for a while and we have not issued any update emails to our members and followers. We did keep our Instagram account active for a bit, but to tell you the truth, it was kind of nice to take a break from our social media accounts, our monthly meetings and Adopt-A-Crag events. But now we really miss our local climbing and outdoor community that we have spent 27 years building. It really is the members and this great community that makes this club so unique and special. We are sticking with our first Tuesday of each month for our general meetings. For July 6, we are not certain if we will have a presenter for our general meeting or just get together, hang out and re-connect with each other. Stay tuned for more details for July 6 and for upcoming Adopt-A-Crag events and camping/climbing trips.

Steve Curtis – A Month of Climbing in Adrspach and Teplice, Czech Republic

Location: Round Table Pizza, 2065 Occidental Road, Santa Rosa Time & Date: Tuesday, April 7, 2019 @ 7:30 PM (Social hour and free beer for members at 6:30) Directions: From Highway 101 at Santa Rosa go west on Highway 12 to Stony Point Road Exit. Go straight from the middle lane at the light onto Occidental Road. The Round Table Pizza is on the right just down the road. Over 100 years ago our sport was birthed in the Elbsandsteingebirge near Dresden, Germany. Shortly afterward, adventurous bands of German climbers discovered sandstone pinnacles over a wide radius, including Teplice in the Czech Republic. Of course, Germans then were too destitute to get proper accommodation and food, acquiring a bad reputation from sleeping in the woods and avoiding entrance fees. On the other hand, they occasionally managed four first tower ascents in a day by routes that are challenging still. Aderspach has a very severe reputation for no fall 5.11 routes from the 1940s. These climbs are hard and runout but tame compared to climbs in the Elb. Steve Curtis continues to travel and search out these fantastic and historic climbing areas in Europe. Steve meets up with his friends for … READ MORE

Calder Davey – A Photographer & Soloist Learning To Adapt

Go straight from the middle lane at the light onto Occidental Road. The Round Table Pizza is on the right just down the road. Calder Davey has spent the last three years going from living in a small apartment in Sacramento, to a much smaller bed in the back of his truck. His first stop was Yosemite Valley where he was employed by the concessionaire making sandwiches for tourists and the occasional Honnold or Chin. After quickly learning that working in the Valley isn’t very compatible with spending time on the cliffs, he went to the next best place, Bishop, Ca. Here Calder found a home that suited his interests and freedom and felt more of a belonging with a more hush-hush community of climbers and artists. Six months of enjoying the new social climate and splitter weather, he found himself laying in the dirt in the middle of the night at a small crag … READ MORE

Go straight from the middle lane at the light onto Occidental Road. The Round Table Pizza is on the right just down the road. Darren Wiemeyer and his wife, Natalie, embark on a 10 day backpack and climbing trip into the heart of the Wind River Range in Wyoming. After years of exploring and enjoying the High Sierra, the desire to backpack and climb in another spectacular mountain range was the big goal for 2017. Unfortunately, they were shut down by a high percentage thunderstorm forecast. So they returned in August of 2018, forecasts be damned. They devised an ambitious plan to pack as many meals as possible into their already stuffed packs in order to complete a big backpacking loop and tag summits along the way. They mostly got lucky with the weather and climbed the ridge tower on Overhanging Tower, Bollinger Peak, Midsummer Dome and the classic south buttress of Pingora. Some highlights … READ MORE
